Fran Bartkowski studied comparative literature at the University of Iowa. She teaches English and women's studies at Rutgers University-Newark.  In 2009 she was at the Institute for Advance Study at Durham University, UK, when the topic of research was "Being Human." Her three books are: Feminist Utopias (University of Nebraska Press, 1989); Travelers, Immigrants, Inmates: Essays in Estrangement (University of Minnesota Press, 1995); and Kissing Cousins: A New Kinship Bestiary (Columbia University Press, 2008).  She co-edited, with Wendy Kolmar, Feminist Theory: A Reader.  She is working on a novel set in a displaced persons camp in post-World War II Germany.  (franb@rutgers.edu)
